Acupuncture Program for Doctors of Chiropractic


In Virginia, DCs need 200 hours of chiropractic acupuncture training by a CCE-accredited organization to perform acupuncture.


This UVCA program provides 100 hours, including the required 50 hours of live in-person clinical training, via:

  • Two (2) 25-hour in-person weekends in Richmond, Virginia and
  • Three (3) 20-hour online modules,
  • Through a partnership between the UVCA, AcuPractice, and the Texas Chiropractic College.

Those who need an additional 100 hours can then take the online/on-demand training program by the same instructor through ChiroCredit.com.

You don’t need to be a UVCA member to access this superb training – but UVCA members enjoy discounts on all segments!

Hybrid Format


This coursework is offered through a combination of on-demand, self-paced video instruction and live in-person course weekends in Richmond.





Practical Application


Doctors who complete this program are well prepared to safely provide acupuncture and related techniques to effectively address most MSK and neurological conditions, as well as many internal disorders commonly seen in chiropractic practice.


Varied Learning Methods

He is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico, licensed Acupuncturist in Massachusetts, and a Diplomate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. A 1984 graduate and past faculty of both the New England School of Acupuncture and Southwest Acupuncture College, Dr. Ventresca was among the first group of acupuncturists in the U.S. to become a board-certified Diplomate of Acupuncture with the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Modules 1, 3 and 4 are Virtual. Modules 2 and 5 are In-Person.

  • Introduction: Acupuncture, Dry Needling, Legal, Practical and Clinic Setup
  • Clinical Fundamentals: Yin & Yang, 8 Principles, Substances, Organs, Pathogens, 5 Elements, Horary Cycle
  • Meridian and Points: Introduction to Points and Meridians, 12 Primary Points
  • Clinical Techniques and Microsystems: Tongue Diagnosis, 12 Primary Points

Module 2

  • Clinical Fundamentals: Points & Meridians: Du, Yang & Sinew Meridians, Clean needle technique,
  • Clinical Techniques and Microsystems: Introduction to Needles & Tools, Microsystems Overview, Auricular Therapy
  • Point Release and Stimulation, TCM Pain Management

Module 3

  • Clinical Fundamentals: Yin Organs, Extraordinary, Meridians and Organs, Respiratory, Digestive, GU
  • Points & Meridians: Ren and Yin Meridians, Point Categories and Combinations
  • Clinical Techniques and Microsystems: Moxibustion and Heat Therapy

Module 4

  • Clinical Fundamentals: Women’s Health, Fundamentals Review, National Board Preparation
  • Points & Meridians: 8 Extraordinary Meridians
  • Clinical Techniques / Microsystems: Chemical Dependency, Intro to Herbal Medicine

Module 5

  • Clinical Fundamentals: Ventresca Method for the Treatment of Pain
  • Points & Meridians: Extra Points, Hand acupuncture, YNSA & Neuro-acupuncture,
  • Clinical Techniques and Microsystems:, Electro-acupuncture, Laser-acupuncture, IASTM

Required Materials


Below is a list of materials you need to have for this class.


You can either:

  • Order and purchase a supply kit including these materials when you register for the UVCA course. You’ll receive them on the first day of class.
       OR
  • Obtain them elsewhere and bring them with you.

  • 500 Acupuncture Needles consisting of the following.  

Seirin (brand) G-Type (preferred)
(Seirin J-type perfectly acceptable)
100 individual needles per box
2 Boxes 0.20 x 30mm #3 gauge (36)
1 Box 0.20 x 50mm #5 gauge (32)

Seirin (brand) L-Type
(Or other steel handle suitable for Moxsafe application)
1 Box 0.30 x 60mm #8 gauge (28)

  • 1 Box Seirin Pyonex Singles 0.6mm x 0.15mm (or can sub similar)

  • 1 Box Seirin Moxsafe Moxa System (35)

  • 3 7-Star Plumb Blossom Bullet Black (or can substitute similar)

  • 1 Gua Sha Tool - Shark (substitute any similar size)

  • 1 Portable Biohazard Container (pint size)

The 5-module course with registration through the UVVCA begins July 25, 2022 via Module 1, which is online and on-demand. Register now so you can start the first virtual segment as early as July 25th. Registration closes on August 25.


Just need CEUs? You can attend either of the in-person modules in Richmond “ala carte” for 25 type 1 CEUs each.
